Sustainability

At The 345, we understand the environmental impact of the set building industry and are committed to making a difference. While the nature of our work can often lead to a significant amount of waste, we take responsibility for our role in ensuring we cause as little detrimental impact as possible. Our approach is rooted in conscientiousness, and we strive to ensure that every project we work on is as sustainable as possible.

We aim to avoid the practice of “greenwashing” and instead focus on tangible actions that make a real difference.

Here’s how we’re doing our bit:

Responsible Material Use:

We select appropriate materials for each project, prioritising those that are reusable, or recyclable, and minimise waste in design. We are happy to consult on reducing waste throughout the design process.

Waste Segregation:

We are committed to responsible waste management by carefully sorting our waste materials. This includes separating recyclable materials from non-recyclable ones to ensure they’re processed appropriately. By working closely with trusted waste management partners, we make sure that as much as possible is diverted from landfill.

Donating Materials to Projects:

We actively support local initiatives by donating leftover materials to community projects, charities, and other creative ventures that can make use of them. This helps to keep materials in circulation and supports others in need, fostering a culture of reuse and sustainability. We currently work with The Bristol Wood Recycling Project, The Sofa Project, and The Scrap Store.

Second Homes for Props and Sets:

As far as possible, we ensure that props and set pieces no longer needed find new homes. Whether it’s through donations to charities, events, theatrical productions, or festivals, we pass them on to other industries that can reuse them. We give our materials a second life rather than letting them go to waste.

Our Commitment to Change:

We may not have all the answers, but we are constantly learning, open to taking advice, and committed to improving our practices while pushing for more responsible actions. We will continue to adapt and refine our processes to ensure that we’re doing our part in reducing the environmental impact of our industry. We are always receptive to suggestions on how to improve our approach to materials and waste.
